Happy New Year!

3 weeks old yesterday..

Callum is still spending his days sleeping and eating. His cheeks are getting chubbier and he's becoming more alert when he is awake. And so so cute! (I might be biased ..)

Yesterday we went to our first coffee morning at Leila's with a really nice bunch of mummies from Kerrisdale. Here's the two December babies. Marielle is 3 days younger than Callum!

Callum's First Christmas ..

What a fantastic day! Not sure whether Callum would agree seeing as he slept through Mike and I opening all his presents as well as Christmas dinner, but we had loads of fun and Callum sure was spoilt by all his grandparents, aunties, uncles, cousins and friends in NZ and Australia. And here!

We started the celebrations early on Christmas Eve with a visit from Lisa and Nick who very generously brought yummy lasagne from Da Paulo for tea. I'm quite proud of us all for polishing off a bottle of champers without falling asleep too.

Christmas Day started bright and early. I think it was the first time in a long time that I have been up before the sun on Christmas morning. Soon it will be me telling Callum to go back to bed, it's too early, but this year we had to wake him for his early morning feed.

Christmas dinner was at the Spencers and it was great. There were 8 of us for dinner plus 3 wee bubbas. It was meant to be 8 plus 1 - including two Mummies-to-be but Leila's wee girl decided she wanted to join in the fun too and arrived 3 days after Callum on December 12. It was nice to have another couple to compare sleep deprivation with but a bit of a reality check seeing Marielle next to Callum. He really is teeny tiny still.

Today was our first trip back to the hospital for Callum's check up with Dr Ang. Yes, it's Boxing Day and yes the doctor's office is open - it's not a holiday here in Singapore.

After a ridiculously long wait Dr Ang saw us (and Callum) and all is well! Callum is now 2.32kg which isn't quite as much as I'd hoped, but perhaps I was being overly optimistic as Dr Ang is more than happy with his weight gain so far.

Guess which Christmas present is our favourite ...

The night before the night before Christmas

Callum is two weeks old tomorrow and came home last Thursday (18/12/08).
We're doing really well at home, working out the sleeping and eating thing and really enjoying having Mike home as well. We're looking forward to Callum's first Christmas this Thursday - Christmas dinner at the Spencers in the afternoon. Callum already has a decent stash of Christmas presents .. pretty impressive for someone who wasn't sposed to be here!

Home time!

For me, but not Callum - yet. Dr Paul said he'd discharge me yesterday (Thurs) but decided to stay in an extra night to try and get breastfeeding established. So far, so good. Callum's finding it tiring but he did manage to latch on and try sucking so hopefully it's onwards and upwards from here (particularly his weight!)

Came home at lunch time, Ali came to meet me in the car park (bless her!) and helped with all my bags and things. Considering I didn't know I'd be staying in hospital on Monday night I sure had plenty of stuff to bring home!

Day 2 - Wednesday

Callum is in the NICU here at Thomson. His paediatrician, Dr Ang, has been to visit this morning and tells me Callum still has his "grunty cry" which means his lungs need to strengthen and we can't try breastfeeding today. Maybe tomorrow though..

Mike went to visit Callum last night and was quite taken aback by how small and vulnerable he seems now that he's on a big "bed" and all wired up. We went to see Callum this morning and I had my first hold (since we were in the delivery room)

Welcome to the world, baby Callum

Very excited to announce that (very) little Callum Michael arrived safely on Tuesday, December 9th 2008 at 3.06pm (Singapore time!). He's just a teeny bubba at 1.92kg, but he is perfection and totally cute!
The paediatrician said he is definitely premature but all looks well and Callum is breathing on his own in the NICU.
